We stop by here on a Sunday at 2PM and the place was empty. We got some dimsum for sampling and they were great so we went full board with soup, stir fry and noodles. This will be our new favorite place for Chinese in Salt Lake.

Our family really enjoys coming here. The portions are great to share amongst family members. The tables all have lazy Susan's which make sharing plates, fun and easy. The lunch combos are an incredible deal. It's nice to find a decent Chinese place in west valley.

Granting a 4th star now that I've had lunch there a couple of times, and plan to dine here more often. The shrimp was fresh and plentiful on both occasions in the Shrimp with Vegetables as well as the Cashew Shrimp (the nuts were fresh, too). The Almond Chicken and Pom Pom Chicken were both delicious as well. The food is prepared and presented with care. The owner is always cheerful and welcoming!

Great food and environment! I would recommend this restaurant to my friends. The seafood congee is really great and so are the dimsums.

I love this place. The food is fresh and the service is quick. I come here at least twice a week for lunch.

This place is awesome. I highly recommend the special crispy pork and the chow fun. They have live tanks and all the seafood I've tried has been amazing.

Rule number 1 in the restaurant business- don't try to cheat the customers then make a pathetic attempt to apologize once you're caught. Rule number 2- a customer should NEVER have to get up and walk around to find you just to get a refill of water/ Togo boxes. What's worse is when you're sitting in the back of the kitchen on your cell phone. I walk in and was immediately seated and knew what I wanted already. Wow here we go.. Deep fried shrimp dumplings- my fave appetizer. Not only are they half the size of other restaurants but they tried to tell me that they only came with 4 dumplings instead of 6 like the menu says. I pointed out the menu and the waitress said that " since I'm ordering dimsum it only comes with 4." I tried explaining that I WAS NOT ordering off the dimsum menu but as an appetizer so it should come with 6. She rolled her eyes so I left it at that. 5 minutes later some random waitress comes to my table and apologizes and says I was RIGHT and that she will tell the cook to make me 2 more dumplings. She said that the other waitress doesn't know the menu items well. Why are you working here if you don't know the menu? Hollow veggie with garlic- I always order this veggie dish at every Chinese restaurant and here it was lacking in garlic flavor and was very watery. Fried rice with dried scallop and eggs- this dish was okay but I've had better at new golden dragon and ho ho gourmet. The portions here are big but quality trumps quantity every time. Will I ever come back here? Not likely. Not only was my table never checked on for refills, but each time I had to get up and ask for water, my check and Togo boxes. The waitresses were in the back playing on their cell phones. No wonder this place is rumored to be going out of business. I've never seen a Chinese restaurant so slow even on a weekday. This place used to be where Red Maple was before their kitchen " burned down" but that's another rumor that doesn't need to be addressed at this time. As far as quality of food and customer service, Lucky Star you fail miserably. Please don't try to cheat your customers out of food, don't send threatening emails to yelpers who posted reviews that are less to your liking ( you guys are known to harass yelpers but what do I know) and most importantly you need to reevaluate your staff.

From the perspective of a chinese who have lived in Hong Kong for 4 years, the dishes are kind of horrible. We ordered SuiMai, LiuSha Bun and fried chicken noodles...they are super greasy and nasty after a single bite... The noodles tangled together and differed a lot from the picture on the menu...the Suimais were over steamed and the skin fell apart from the meat...the LiuSha Buns were the worst...the hot stuffing squirt out on my bf's clothes...and it was all oil instead of any egg stuffing!...the greasy feeling made my stomach feel sick and vomitted eventually :-C oh by the way...they don't provide any pastry as advertised including egg tart in weekdays, which is the reason why we choose this restaurant. So...We have to turn to another restaurant for lunch now...good luck for ppl that had and will try it -_-||

Lucky Star, also known as "Dim Sum House 2" in Chinese, replaced the short lived Peonies as yet another Dim Sum restaurant at same the location. I believe the restaurant was a result of sibling rivalry and split between the two brother chefs at Dim Sum House. The location seems to be struggling to come back after the Red Maple fire few years back. They have one of the biggest dining spaces for a Chinese restaurant, they can host for very large parties, and even Chinese weddings can be comfortably hosted here. The liquor store next door can be troublesome though being known for their road accidents near the parking lot. Their menu was similar to Dim Sum House, and they have the same dim sums, not as many varieties though probably due to lower traffic. The rice rolls had pretty thick skin here, but they were not made in a hurry like their other location. Other dim sums were ok, the custard buns were not flowing at all the inside. The shumai were just pork, not very good. Their pastries were decent, similar to their other location, but they went the easy route on sesame ball with just red bean. Xiaolongbao was very leaky, and most of the soups were gone when we got them. We had their BBQ Platter, which is supposed to be what they specialized here, since their Chinese restaurant name translate to "Chow's BBQ". They were nicely plated unlike a "little" place on state st that piles them like garbage. Roasted Pork was just ok, and the skin could be crisper. Cha Shu was a bit weak on seasoning. The roasted duck was probably the best among them. Spicy Boiled Fish was served interestingly with a small warmer underneath, and they used the light soupy broth with plenty of fish inside. Pipa Tofu was just like other places. Seasoning was a bit off on their dishes, and I think their first location does a better job on cook dishes. Too bad they are closing soon, another short lived restaurant just like the previous one at this location. The Asian Rumor that goes around claims the location is haunted by bad spirits and many former owners/employees at that location can probably validate those ghost stories. Folks that are superstitious should probably avoid them... What's next for here? Maybe a haunted house would thrive in this location.

This place is where the old Red Maple restaurant used to be located before they started a kitchen fire with oil and received a large sum of insurance money to purchase their new location on 4700 South. Loved the selection of Dim Sum, wasn't as large as New Golden Dragon but everything was very delicious. They have some items I have never even seen before, not even in Hong Kong. Can't wait to return and try their non-Americanized portion of the menu.

The egg white dried scallop fried rice was delicious it had the wok flavor in it with fluffy egg whites and crispy fried scallops. The dim sum wasn't impressive. They had carts sitting around for awhile and the turnip cake was cold, not warm, cold. We also ordered the french style beef plate and it had honey and black pepper it tastes very unique almost like a crissaoint. They had forgotten about this dish so it took about 30 minutes for this dish to come out and I had asked 10 minutes into the order if it was being made. Will go back for the egg white dried scallop fried rice and the beef!

Tried Lucky Star for the first time on 3/1/15 with my parents and I have to say that we were impressed! We had a traditional Dim Sum brunch and the quality of the Dim Sum is among the best we've had in Salt Lake. I would prefer Lucky Star over Golden Dragon now after having tried this place. Most of the Dim Sum came out hot and freshly made and the service was quick and friendly. I would definitely recommend their Chinese egg tart. It's the best I've had across the Dim Sum restaurants in the Salt Lake valley. It came out warm and the crust is crispy and flaky and the tart overall isn't too sweet, which is just the way I like it. Other places in my opinion never can get the crust quite right and usually the tarts come out cold and stale. I wouldn't recommend their Xiao Long Bao, at least from this first experience. That was the only item that didn't seem to be fresh. If you're looking for a great new Dim Sum restaurant in Salt Lake. I'd definitely give Lucky Star a go!

The portions size was great for the money. The food came out fast and was very fresh. Typical American-Chinese food, but they do offer traditional Chinese food as well. I wasn't too fond of their egg rolls, they were a little mushy, but it was no big deal. I would come back. They also deliver which is a plus.

The dim sum here is pretty good. Some items I would prefer elsewhere and vice versa. Didn't exactly do the math but I feel like this place charges more than the other dim sum places. Probably not gonna come back since I have dim sum close by. Nothing here really jumps out but the price. Service was good. Eh.

This place is newly open. It need to be known by more people! I vote it the best place for dim sum in town. If you are used to going to new golden dragon, I think this place is better than that. I am a Chinese and I think it is pretty authentic!

Took my wife and kids there for mothers day on 5-10-2015. The dim sum was good however the customer service wasn't very good. Steamed pork buns were soggy. One guy actually was pretty unprofessional. Took about 10 minutes for the cart to come by and then never came back again. Seated in the corner so maybe they just forgot about us. Overall it wasn't a very good experience and I think I'll stick to my usual.

It was tough to decide how many stars to give this place. I ordered delivery from here last night and there were some great things and some not so great things. The menu is fairly traditional, aka less American dishes, so that was more difficult to navigate by delivery. The BBQ spareribs had barely any flavor (needed a ridiculous amount more of sauce). The Singapore style chow fun was delicious! And had shrimp and pork in it, definitely a reorder. The chicken lettuce wraps rocked (but to be fair were exactly what I expected). The general tao's chicken had breading like sweet and sour chicken normally has, so we weren't big fans. The cream cheese wontons were sad with barely any cheese it in, if there was the proper ratio of cheese in it they'd be really great as the flavor in the cheese filling that was there was fab.

There were about 4 tables around noon on a Saturday. Pretty slow considering it being brand new. We ordered the following: Rice noodles with shrimp and beef. Chai Sui bun. Tripe stew. Pork ribs. Chicken feet. Pig ears. Tofu soup. Theses are just a few examples. The noodles didn't have much flavor and the texture was horrible. The chai sui bun has a weird flavor to it and lacked meat content. The tripe stew was tender and good. Pig ears was good. The tofu was gritty. Overall good quality = eh. Maybe because it was new and the chefs hasn't found their groove. There wasn't much variety. Customer service. Not many Asian places are known to have decent customer service. The older waitress are very friendly. The younger ones, probably the family members, were very unfriendly. Didn't ask how the food tasted or the how the service was.

This place is delish! I've been here now twice and can give a fair review. I've been wanting to come here but the low reviews on yelp have always made me stay away. After trying it the first time i was dumbfounded why it has low reviews but after talking with the owner i understand alot of it has to do with politics. Well here is an unbiased honest review from a foodie junkie big on flavor! The first time i had the duck wonton soup with noodles, and crab. Both were really good but the broth was a little bland the crab however was beyond AMAZING!! I've seriously never had crab that was that spot on with seasonings. The second time i had the pork belly which i would rate a four, the lobster which honestly was not as good as the crab in terms of flavor i felt like it was lacking, and the wonton and duck soup which this time the broth was beyond amazing and spot on! The thing i really love about this place besides the food is the service and how they make you feel like your family/frends. I would hands down recommend this place for their authentic chines menu
